My refund came from TPG Products and was short hundreds of dollars (2024)

I filed my taxes through turbotax and chose to have the fees taken from my refund. We were expecting the refund to be $1,627. The deposit came through from a company called TPG products for the amount of $1,002.30. Clearly short $624.70. When I go to the TPG site (https://taxpayer.sbtpg.com/login) it shows "Federal Tax Refund (FMS) received $1,119.30".

However, when I pull up the transcript from irs.gov (https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript) they have the refund amount issued as $1,744. So somewhere between the IRS and TPG $624.70 went missing. This seems extremely shady, especially when looking into this issue online and seeing that this has been going on since last year. I sent a support ticket in to TPG with a copy of my IRS transcript. Is this something Turbotax is aware of and is addressing?

Still haven't gotten an answer regarding this.

I called TPG Products and sat on hold for an hour with no one picking up. Super shady.

I called Turbotax and sat on the phone with an agent for over an hour and kept being told that according to the IRS my refund was offset due to a prior tax bill. HOWEVER, I download my transcripts and returns every year and when I looked back at my previous transcripts there is zero balance every year dating back to 2017 when I started holding onto everything. And again I reminded them that the IRS doesn't show any amount being taken to offset anything and no notices have been posted to my account to reflect an offset. After over an hour nothing was remedied and was told to call the IRS.

You will need to contactTPG for information regarding your refund. They are one who handles your refund if you elect to pay your fees with your refund. You can also check out this TPG Refund Tracker to check on your refund.

@MoniqueLO_ As mentioned above, by not only myself, trying to get a hold of any one at TPG is a futile effort. I personally sat on hold for 87 minutes with no answer. I then called again to get a call back and as of this message have still not been called back which is now almost 2 hours later.

Also, as you can see from my original post above, that TPG refund tracker you linked is above so I have already tried your advice and gotten nowhere.

So, what would you recommend would be the next step to proceed with?

You will need to await a callback from TPG or try contacting them again. Please see Contact Information – TPG for information, including their hours of operation. You may want to try calling early in the morning since they may get busier throughout the day.

Ok y’all! I actually figured mine out… with no help from TPG or TurboTax. But it also wasn’t their faults (on my refund). I found this in the treasury website:

If you received a delinquent debt notice from the US Treasury or are missing money from your federal tax refund, federal salary, or federal benefits, you owe a debt.

• To obtain information on whether your tax refund or federal payment was reduced or offset, you can call [phone number removed] and select option 1 to hear an automated message of the amount, date and creditor agency or agencies you owe the debt to.
