Homemade Body Butter Recipe With Beeswax (1)

I have been cursed with skin that immediately gets red and chapped as soon as cooler weather hits. It’s been especially bad if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding (which has basically been the last ten years!)

I used to slather store-bought lotions on all Winter, and my skin would look better for a little while. But because lotion contains a high percentage of water, it doesn’t give you that deep hydrating repair that body butter does.

Have you tried making my homemade beeswax lip balm yet?

Fast forward to a few years ago when I started making most of my family’s skincare products from scratch. Now I make my own body butter that actually works to heal my skin instead of making it feel better temporarily. It’s all natural and effective. No need to look further!

One of the best things about this recipe is just how quick and easy it is to whip up a batch that can last your family all Season! It might seem pricey the first time you make it, but you only need a small amount of each ingredient, so just think of it as a good investment.

If you like using bars of lotion, this is a great recipe for beeswax lotion bars.

FAQ About This Homemade Body Butter Recipe

what are the benefits of beeswax in body butter?

Aside from keeping the natural moisture in your skin, using a small amount of beeswax in homemade body butter helps to keep it in a more solid form as its exposed to temperature changes.

Homemade body butter can feel greasy as the soft butter ingredients are rubbed onto warm skin. A little bit of beeswax added to the recipe will help to keep your skin feeling moisturized and less like you rubbed oil on it.

how much beeswax should you use in body butter?

I like to stick to 2 tablespoons of beeswax pellets for an 8 ounce jar of body butter. It’s just the right amount to make it thick and creamy but not waxy.

why is homemade body butter sometimes greasy?

Homemade lotions and body butters sometimes leave your skin feeling greasy because your body temperature is just warm enough to melt the butters in the lotion.

Adding beeswax can help with this because it helps to keep body butter solid as it’s exposed to warm skin.

what are the benefits of beeswax on the skin?

Beeswax lightly coats the skin, locking in moisture to keep your skin from drying out as quickly.

This natural wax also acts as a natural exfoliator, helping to shed dry skin as it’s being applied.

What Can You Make with beeswax?

There are so many things you can make with beeswax: Lip balms, furniture polish, leather conditioner, candles even baby lotion! I like to have a bag of beeswax pellets on hand because I’m always finding new uses for it!
